Three Tries: Closing Service
Echo Contemporary, Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Three Tries: Closing Service extends the Three Tries cycle into a collective act, shifting from individual endurance to communal reflection and care. The work takes place following Three Tries: The Resurrection, activating the gallery as a shared space of gathering after the artist’s return to the present.
Participants—community members, supporters, and collaborators—are invited into the space for a final assembly. The environment is reactivated through shared presence and simple ritual: eating together and writing messages addressed to one’s younger self. These gestures echo the internal processes of the preceding performances while redistributing them across the group.
The written offerings function as acts of affirmation, care, and reorientation, extending the work beyond the individual body and into a collective field. Personal reflection becomes communal, held and witnessed by others.
Three Tries: Closing Service positions community as a site of repair, where transformation is not isolated but sustained through shared experience, memory, and continued exchange.
